In August 2006, I started a new site to test this new traffic generating plugin. Almost immediately I began getting traffic as a direct result of this plugin. Traffic continued to increase as search engines began to index the site.

Social bookmarking involves posting a link back to your web page or blog post from a social bookmarking website which stores the link. You enter keywords (called Tags) which categorize your bookmark and allow others to search, view and vote for your bookmark. You are basically sharing your sites with visitors and members of the bookmarking site.

There is benefit to this on several levels:

First you get direct traffic from people clicking on your bookmark and going directly to your web page. This usually won't be a huge amount of traffic in most cases, but is is very targeted. Also, every once in a while you get a site that will take off and become very popular from this alone.
The next benefit is an increased potential for fast search engine indexing. When you post your bookmark to a bookmarking site, it will be displayed on the front page. Now these pages are usually a very high PR, ranging from PR5 to PR7 or PR8!

What this means is that Googlebot and other search engine spiders visit this page hundreds of times each day. When they visit and find your links there they will check out your site immediately.

Think about this: Google is finding your page from a link on a very high PR site. This is the "best scenario" for getting a good search engine ranking.

Sounds Perfect! OK, Here's The Catch. . .

By now I'm sure you are thinking social bookmarking is just what you've been looking for, but like all things, this has it's problems:

PROBLEM 1:
IT'S TOO TIME CONSUMING

In order to be effective, you want to have have accounts at several bookmarking sites. This means manually logging into each site to post a link to your site. If you have many, many web pages to bookmark (and of course you do), then the task becomes incredibly difficult and tedious.

PROBLEM 2:
PEOPLE ARE MISUSING THE TECHNIQUES

Overall Social Bookmarking is a great strategy, however there are some people who don't care to use in a manner that is beneficial for everyone. They use it as a way to SPAM thousands of their junk pages and affiliate sites.

Thankfully, bookmarking sites are starting to crackdown on this type of activity. So if you are a spammer, be warned! Unfortunately for us non-spammers, sometimes it is very easy to be accused of SPAM even though you are not doing so.

So, What Are The Solutions?

In past months there have been several potential solutions to improve social bookmarking speed and effectiveness, but in my opinion they fail to address the two main problems above:

They do not make it much easier to post to bookmarking sites. The software currently available requires too much manual intervention. You have to enter URLS, enter data for each URL, select where to post the URLS, etc. It's just too much to do, and too time consuming if you have hundreds of sites and pages to post.
Some are charging you each month. I don't know the reason for this other than to get more money from you, but I do not see any benefit to paying $40 - $60 a month for a software application that bookmarks my sites. It just doesn't make sense.
They do not separate your activity from spammers. This is a biggie. All other bookmarking software out today just posts all of your web pages at once! Or worse they post the same page to multiple accounts that you have.

They have no moderation or randomization! Think about this for a second. If you have thousands of web pages to post, how does it look when these applications log into your bookmarking account and just dump all of your URLS at once? I don't know about you, but that sure looks like SPAM to me!

Some software will wait a few minutes between posts, but it doesn't matter. Even if it's good content, adding 500 URLS to one bookmarking account in a day is just NOT normal behavior and you will eventually be banned by the bookmarking site. Don't do it!

The ability to post to multiple bookmarking accounts for the same site, AND specify which account you want to post to. So if you have two Spurl accounts you can post to one from blog 1 and post to the other from blog 2. Or you can post to both accounts from blog 1, it's up to you.

What is required to install and run this plugin?
You need the following:
1. Wordpress 2.5+
2. FTP Software (to upload the plugin)
3. Accounts at the social bookmarking sites. (these are all free)
4. IonCube loaders which you can download for free from www.ioncube.com if they are not already installed on your server

To how many bookmarking sites is ASP able to bookmark?

Good question! Our objective is for ASP to bookmark to over 30 bookmarking sites. However the exact number is a moving target. Why? Because most bookmarking sites are updating their login/posting process on a regular basis. Also, new bookmarking sites are coming online, while older ones are going off line. And keeping up with these changes is a hard (coding and testing) work! Because of this ongoing process, it may happen that ASP is unable to post to several bookmarking sites listed in our plugin. This is why we try to update the ASP code on a regular basis. We cannot however guarantee that, at any point in time all the bookmarking sites listed in our documentation and/or our website will have a 'working' status. There could be and there will be some posting errors. While we use reasonable efforts to update the list of bookmarking sites, we are not committed to a minimum number of bookmarking sites and/or to any specific bookmarking sites. You are welcome to signal to us any such posting errors you may encounter when using ASP.

Does ASP require ionCube loaders

Yes. ASP requires ionCube loaders to be installed on your server. As a reminder, ionCube loaders are free. Since ionCube is widely used, chances is that your server already has ionCube support already enabled. If this is not the case, you would need to download them here. The install is actually fairly easy. If needed, ask your web host as they will surely be able to help.

Is there a limit to the number of posts I can bookmark?

Yes. According to the license there is a maximum number of bookmarked posts, depending on the license you purchased. It will stop being valid once the limit is reached. You should choose a license with a maximum limit your are confortable with. In any case, volume extension add-on are available.

How does this add tags automatically?

When creating your blog post, you specify the keywords to be used as tags. You can also specify pre-set tags for all blog posts in advance.

Does Auto Social Poster create bookmarking accounts for me?

No, definitely not. You must do this yourself, but it takes less than a minute for each site.

We decided not to offer this ability because the sign up processes for most sites are constantly changing in an effort to combat spammers and automated registrations. Any system that automates account creations is just asking for problems down the road.

We are not spammers and do not wish to be perceived as such. We are not trying to generate throwaway accounts where you spam a few hundred domains and then get banned. We want to create lasting accounts, that build integrity over time. This is not a spam tool!

How can this be used to post to my blog automatically?

This is how I use Auto Social Poster: I have close to 100 quality content Wordpress blogs. On each one I have installed the Auto Social Poster plugin. On some of them I have RSS2Blog set up to post an different articles to each blog. When it does, Auto Social Poster takes over and does it's thing... I don't have to do anything except check my email report to make sure that everything was posted OK.

There are several applications that can add posts to your blog automatically. Just load up a bunch of good content, making sure you add your keywords to be used as tags and then you are ready to go.

Can ASP be used with other blogging platform than Wordpress?

Yes. We now have two versions of ASP: one for Wordpress and one for Joomla!. Please note that each version is separate; the Wordpress version will bookmark posts published on a Wordpress blog, while the Joomla version will bookmark articles published on a Joomla! website.

Can I use ASP to do spam?

Absolutely not. Our software is not spamware. You cannot use ASP to bookmark a high number of poor quality posts. You should use ASP to bookmark only quality material which you believe are of interest to readers of bookmarking sites.

Can I promote any content I want using ASP?
